BUHAY REPORTER
-ryandgreat, lireo, encantadia

avisala! sorting this off from my draft, this was a pre-pandemic project of two news presenters from tv5 and a news producer from gma-7, welcome to our vlog !!!!!!

yes, the cat is finally out of the bag !!! i'm happy to share to all of you a project we've been finalizing in the last three months sometime between 2018 and 2019

as much as i'd like to put in details of what went through this, it was a happy process after all and looking back we never thought, mon, pat and myself could pull through this special task on top of our regular duties at work from two different newsrooms of kamuning and reliance !!!!!

we thought of this as our passion project, outside of our normal duties and it is quite appropriate that we start off by walking you through our behind-the-scenes at a day in a life of a news reporter and anchor

i've been doing behind-the-scenes work for more than a decade while mon and pat has been covering news assignments as reporter then anchor and later on i became a reporter :)

so together, for this project we combined our powers! our skills! and so we're very proud to present to you this special video, hope you enjoy this one as much as we enjoyed the entire process of doing, glad that its still there!

reposting this one from my a decade ago post to honor  24 oras!, that paved way for me to become the media practitioner that i am today.

i've been following gma-7's news programs that have gone through many experiment-of-sorts in the 90's
i remember, saksi was the primetime newscast of gma-7, led by mike enriquez, karen davila and later on mel tiangco

and then in1998, mike enriquez joined the latenight newscast gma network news and its longtime news anchor vicky morales

latenight newscasts on tv are traditionally in english

but the mike-vicky tandem tried the use of taglish and later on becomes straight tagalog that also pioneered stand-up news delivery

this paved way for many innovations then,

the mike-vicky tandem in a way succeeded on the following year

the original anchor of saksi, mike enriquez returned to primetime newscast saksi, with vicky morales

and mel tiangco had her own solo newscast titled frontpage: ulat ni mel tiangco on latenight timeslot

August 2001 | Frontpage: Ulat Ni Mel Tiangco - 2001 latenight

September 2003 | Frontpage: Ulat ni Mel Tiangco

October 2003 | Mel Tiangco and Mike Enriquez for Frontpage (2003)

Pilot episode of 24 Oras - March 15, 2004

March 2004 | billboard of 24 Oras at EDSA

Mike Enriquez and Mel Tiangco on 24 Oras pilot episode

this brought a significance change in tv news programs and the battle of latenight newscasts has never been the same since then

abs-cbn's longtime latenight newscast, the world tonight was replaced by

pulso, aksyon, balita and later came many latenight tagalog newscasts that competed with frontpage: ulat ni mel tiangco

and the ratings has improved and favored the latenight timeslot of gma-7

and i think that prompted frontpage: ulat ni mel tiangco to move to primetime and exchanged timeslot with saksi on july 2002

the tried and tested mike-vicky tandem returns to the latenight newscast fore with saksi

and at that time, saksi won a gold medal at the new york festival

on 2003, i noticed of some experiment, mike enriquez and jessico soho would normally subbed for mel tiangco

and then it wasn't too long when gma-7 put together their veteran news anchors as front line for a new primetime news program,

on 15th march 2004, exactly 10 years ago, gma-7 launched 24 oras with mel tiangco and mike enriquez as the tandem to beat

with its slogan pinakamalaking balitaan sa telebisyon

but we all knew that tv patrol was the viewers choice in the last decades!

and it's amazing how 24 oras scored and broke that stranglehold months later after its launch

this exactly was the subject matter of my college thesis,

that, well, earned a good grade and reputation

some the factor that attributed and pulled-up the ratings of 24 oras could be the inclusion of extra challenge to primetime

and that the reality-based format programs were popular then and the emerging success of fantaserye genre mulawin and encantadia

in the nielsen survey on 2004,

24 oras scored a 25.65 percent household ratings while

tv patrol's ratings is at below average of 19.8 percent

on the other hand on november 2004 tv patrol was relaunched as tv patrol world with its new anchors, karen davila and ted failon

it scored a initial ratings of 22 percent while

24 oras had 33 percent

the tandem of mike enriquez and mel tiangco is huge!

they're the veteran news presenters and known to be as the most credible broadcast journalist of gma-7

its one of the greatest advantage for the newscast

that eventually led a wide margin against tv patrol or tv patrol world

in the course of 20 years i've had an opportunity to work with pia guanio for the noontime show eat..bulaga! and eventually i became part of gma news

congratulations 24 oras! and 20 years later it feels that my study is still relevant to this day!

BULAGA
-ryandgreatuno, hanoi, vietnam

what's going on? it was literally a surprise that the long running noontime show is about to end?

we do not all know where it is heading as of this moment but hey i've had so many good memz being part of this show for years

my history with the show is long, i've been watching this since aiza seguerra to laban o bawi

looking back my eat... bulaga! memories there are lot of chapters of fun and stress! and where broadway studio served as my second home

congratulations to the production staff, my prens, who does not sleep just to finish all the expected and unexpected requirements of the show

to my core group i miss you! go for the gold pa din on saturdays!

even though it requires staying beyond the usual working hours hence the dedication and hardship for the show reflects in good ratings you get everyday

and the joy, laughter and hope you share for every Filipino people all over the world everyday

i've to admit i miss the dynamics of working in a live tv show, like eat... bulaga! there’s nothing like it! eat is incomparable! there’s nothing like eat... bulaga!

Du30 on June 30

DU30 ON JUNE 30
-ryandgreat, davao city

this was originally posted on 30th june of 2016, where i was assigned in davao city to follow the transition of the then davao mayor rodrigo duterte to becoming a philippine president, while i am contemplating on the return of the Marcos today.

and so, on june 30, du30 officially is the new head of the philippines!

if i had given the chance to vote last election, my vote is for duterte and robredo respectively!

i go for the most likely to win, that was also the way i voted in 2010 for pnoy and binay!

June 27 |  president Duterte at the flag raising-ceremony of Davao City Hall

as i write this today, i'm still here at davao city, on my second week already!

i'm working on davao related stories with mia reyes and news anchor erwin tulfo

mostly on the glimpse of our new president in his hometown, few days before his oath-taking as president of the philippines and assumed office in malacanan!

on 27th june, marked his last appearance as davao city mayor!

he took part of the flag-raising ceremony, followed by a farewell speech for his constituents in davao city

he has spent decades of service as mayor and vice mayor of davao city!

the event was highly attended not only by employees of davao city hall but also thousands of  davao city residents gathered around davao city hall

on 24th june, president duterte attended the turnover ceremony of davao pnp!

but the highlight of the event was the presentation of marites flor!, who was a hostage of the abu sayaff group

last year, news anchor ed lingao and our team, went here in davao city to cover the abduction story

and nine months later, news anchor ed lingao returned here in davao city and covered the release of marites flor

exclusive videos of the release was aired on tv5 newscasts on 24th june with reports from news anchor ed lingao

meanwhile, news5 reporter mia reyes, who has been covering president duterte since the start of the campaign

has compiled news stories on president duterte's life in davao city and mostly on his transition from mayor of davao city to president of the philippines

news anchor erwin tulfo did also several stories on the life of president duterte here in davao city

he also had a one-on-one interview with honeylet avancena, the common law wife of president duterte, that aired on aksyon primetime on 28th june

and on 30th june, the proud entire davao city held their own celebration of the inauguration of their kababayan president rodrigo duterte

and today, i come full circle on the journey of rodrigo duterte to presidency! live here in davao city!

I Heart Cebu

I HEART CEBU
-ryandgreat, new manila, quezon city

to this day, there's no place in the philippines that i'd love visit than cebu city!

yes i badly want to visit cebu ever since and its a dream destination for me

and that opportunity happened not just once because i have visited cebu city four times in just a year!

August 2013 | Ryan Heart Cebu and Cebu Heart Ryan
December 2012 | the view from our hotel room in Cebu City
August 2013 | in front of  Magellan's cross
August 2013 | the Magellan's cross
August 2013 | at the Fort San Pedro
August 2013 | the Cebu Province Capitol
the first visit was a work related! that's for the launch of radyo5 cebu on 2012 of november

since it's a business trip, i only had a brief tour around the city,

mostly during lunch and on our way to tv5 cebu station and back to our hotel

we stayed at the regency hotel cebu, quite near the city capitol and some establishments that are walking distance to fuente osmena

on 12th november was the launching of local version of radyo5 newsfm in cebu,

local radio arm of tv5 manila

with a live broadcast of some tv5 news programs, punto asintado, t3 and aksyon primetime from cebu

immediately following my last leg of work,

we headed again to cebu for another round of work, this time with maricel halili and my team (my first time to work with maricel halili outside manila)

there was a political crisis in cebu, few days before christmas

cebu governor gwen garcia was suspended by malacanan and vice governor agnes magpale sworn in as acting governor

this caused a lot of tension in the capitol of cebu!

as supporters of both party stayed outside while the suspended governor also stayed in her office to express her resistance in the order of suspension

on the first week of january we went back to cebu, once again for the exact same story

so all in, i've been in and out of cebu 3 times and 2 weeks apart

November 12, 2012 | News5 Anchors, Martin Andanar and Erwin Tulfo at TV5 Cebu
November 2012 | Punto Asintado in Cebu - November 2012
November 12, 2012 | Erwin Tulfo live anchoring from Cebu, for Aksyon Primetime
January 11, 2013 | Cebu politcal crisis
November 2012 | my first visit to Cebu
August 2013 | my fourth visit to Cebu
and it was all amazing!, but that was all for work

and i haven't explored the city that much

and so, last week was a time for purely vacation in cebu! with my family

our first stop, the mactan shrine, only few meters away from mactan international airport of cebu,

and then we headed downtown, at the magallanes street, cebu city,

our first stop, the famous and the historical magellan's cross named after ferdinand  magellan during spanish time

also on the same street is the basilica of Santo Nino, one of the oldest catholic church

cebu city has it's own fort santiago, the fort san pedro located at the plaza independencia,

just like fort santiago in manila that's surrounded by walls but here is too small, with a garden and museum inside

the transportation around cebu city is accesible mostly to jeepneys and taxi

it's highly urbanized district, with big shopping malls and business centeres around the city,

but unlike in manila, the traffic situation in cebu is somewhat manageable

it's urban but in a probinsiya feels with its historical and heritage sites around the city

those are my reasons why i most definitely love cebu city!

it's always my dream local destination and time and again, i look forward to visit either for work or for pleasure!

til' next time! daghang salamat cebu city!
