Ready, Aim, Fly!

READY, AIM, FLY!
-ryandgreat, san lorenzo village, makati city

i'm revisiting one of my peyborit ninetendo video game when i was a little kid! (take note: nintendo pa rin ako hehehe) on many late nights playing pilotwings!

we had this since 1992, back then my peyborit game super mario 4 and more that ever before now that i've become addicted to this video game!

it is a flight simulator video game that also features flying lessons (one by one) to hit goals in light plane flight, rocketbelt, hang glider, and skydiving

i've been playing this video game for the past 3 weeks, and at this writing i've already obtained my b-gold certification!, waw

or the expert’s mode level 3, where i surpassed variuos sky diving, rocketbelt, hang glider and light plane challenges, plus the first (i thought the final stage) helicopter mission

Light Plane sampler
Rocketbelt start-up
Rocketbelt target platform

my own personal peyborit is rocketbelt where the player must take off and fly through a series of rings,

there are 3 rings on an evenly distributed areas, hitting the platform on the other side gives a hundred points plus a bonus round with bonus points

sky diving, hang glider so tricky! i am not good in deploying parachute and would end up shooting in water near the platform

one has to go through 4 LEVELS, level 1 has only sky divng and light plane and must obtain 120 points to get a certification to advance to the last stage and so on until reaching the battle round that's too complicated to describe but all in i truly enjoyed this video game and it never fails to excite me just like before

Talk TV

TALK TV
-ryandgreat

and the landscape of morning tv has changed!

Talk TV used to be a title of a morning talk show in abs-cbn sometime in 2001, a replaaement of kris aquino's mornning show and a counterpart of gma-7's miss d!

but today, gone were those talk shows that used to be a pre-programming for noontime shows!

from teysi ng tahanan to today with kris aquino, and katok mga misis to sis!

abs-cbn's showtime, gma-7's diz iz it! and tv5's face to face, has changed our morning viewing habit that go on to be mildly entertaining?

showtime was launched on october 2009 with vhong navarro, anne curtis, vice ganda and kuya kim atienza

it's the first daily talent show on philippine tv and a third fiddle of america's got talent shown on noontime?!  .....

vice ganda became instant sikat and his "may nag-text"! catchphrase!

the initial telecast was not impressive but it didn't suffer from disappointing ratings,

perhaps the viewers were still adjusting and familiarizing themselves in this kind of format (that was lorded by many talk shows for the longest time)

and not so surprising, Showtime became an all-time favorite after a week

i think its because of the audience participation

the "madalang pipol" can join in the pleasure of playing the boss! since they can vote out any host that they don't like

the judging style can be as funny, entertaining and constructive but it can also get to be over-the-top and embarrassing for the contestants

the massive popularity of the show did not only reflect in its daily ratings which have been very consistent in the first quarter of 2010

according to agb nielsen survey ..

but it also paved way for its hosts to go beyond tv

on the other side of the fence, there's diz iz it! produced by tape inc.,

that also produces the long-running noontime show eat…bulaga!

that was also preceded by sis! the longest-running tv show of gma-7 in that time slot

where it triumphed for eight years and defeated a bunch of tv shows from abs-cbn such as

talk tv,
morning girls,
morning girls with kris and korina,
good morning kris,
morning star,
most requested show,
homeboy,
boy and kris,
ruffa and ai, all of them now defunct
diz iz it remained number two in the ratings and got bumped down to number three

when the newly reformatted tv5 introduced face to face dubbed as talakserye

on 16th April, agb mega manila ratings posted that showtime got a 15.9% household share,

while face to face got 10.6% and diz iz it! had only an 8.9% rating

the format is very similar to showtime, but it slowly went beyond acting and singing to include parlor games

but it didn’t help the show at all and it suffered heavily due to many comparisons to showtime

they invite contestants who look plain and ridiculous as well as unknown and never-before-heard tv personalities?

the show itself tried hard (very hard) but failed in terms of both ratings and popularity maybe diz izn’t it

apparently, the newly reformatted tv5 is putting-up a good fight on this time slot as agb mega manila ratings on april ranked face to face next to showtime

that paved the way for primetime and sunday re-runs.. prompting this tv show to air and appear on the tube 12 times a week!

this somewhat a local adaptation of jerry springer- in female form

big mouths, sneaks and tattletales abound with gossips fueling drama and people ruining each guest’s reputation (if he/she has one to begin with)

some hilarious if not commonsense repartee is given by the rambunctious sawsaweros who also partake in the riot on-stage

and of course by ever affable and impartial host, amy perez herself

the show provokes its guests to reveal real emotions to the extent they can go physical and violent

it makes the show much stimulating and comical, sometimes sad

and embarrassing for the guests who got humiliated all at the same time again, just like its originator,

i thought this kind of classic trash tv will never land on local tubes although the objective of the show is to convince both parties for acceptance and forgiveness,

sometimes the situation puts both sides on bad (or worse) light resulting to nothingness
you don’t really have to peek through your windows, by watching this, it much resembles your neighbor’s drama in live tv!

the show could have strengthened its deliberation by putting relevant issues but if this show transforms to that,

then we should hanker and file for a re-air of ms.d! (one of my favorite morning talk shows)

Sexbomb For All Seasons

SEXBOMB FOR ALL SEASONS
-ryandgreat

spaghetting pababa, spaghetting pataas! that's how daisy siete and the sexbomb girls survived its course in the last eight years!!! awwwwww!

its perplexing still to this day how a series can have more than 20 "seasons" and managed to be on top, most of the time

it was indeed a combination of a leap of faith and a miracle!

who would have thought that a group of back-up dancers of a popular noontime show would transform to be a drama series leading ladies!

i actually had the opportunity to work with them for my segment taktak mo!? o tatakbo?!

they were regular dancers for eat... bulaga! since 1999 and slowly becoming household names along with the popularity of laban o bawi then!

but their talents were not limited to dancing but also in a way, extended to singing and later on acting!

they're known for the hit novelty songs "bakit papa!" and "ispagetti song"

and they have sold more than 500,000 copies of their albums with gold and platinum awards

in 2003, daisy siete was launched and it started as a weekly drama anthology

and later on it became thematic all throughout from outlandish to downright funny concepts each seasons

rochelle pangilinan and the sexbomb girls portrayal of igorots, maids of a prince, martial arts experts, nose twins, pitong maria, uling, tindera, amazona, driver, gay, lesbian and kikays were at par excellence

late last year gma news and public affairs produced a music video of sexbomb girls with the song "bilog na hugis itlog"

that aimed to educate voters and the procedures in the last 2010 automated national elections

the popular guillermo mendoza memorial scholarship awards bestowed sexbomb girls the most popular dance group in the last six consecutive years! (2002 to 2008)

sadly though that daisy siete won't reach their 30th season, unfortunately they went off-air last week huhuhuhuhu

Sayang Olats, Pare

SAYANG OLATS, PARE
-ryandgreat

asap came with a bang at the start of this year as it celebrates its 15th year on tv

while sop on the other hand, bid tv farewell after 13 years sob and sniffles

regine velasquez, the prized asset of gma-7, could have compete with most of asap headliners

but along with her are bunch of unknown personalities and used to be famous who actually can perform, can sing, can dance

but they all lack popularity

there's back-to-back-to-back, a popular segment of s.o.p,

it literally means back-to-back performances of the country’s top caliber concert performers,

including sop mainstays regine velasquez, ogie alcasid, janno gibbs, jaya, lani misalucha and performing with other world-class talents like lea salonga, gary valenciano, martin nievera, pops fernandez, kuh ledesma, ryan cayabyab

2001 | Gary Valenciano first appeared on SOP (photo: GMA-7)
2003 | Martin Nievera of ASAP, on SOP (photo: GMA-7)
2008 | Pops Fernandez of ASAP, on SOP (photo: GMA-7)
2003 | Ariel Rivera of ASAP, on SOP (photo: GMA-7)
2002 | Sarah Geronimo first appeared on SOP (photo: GMA-7)
1997 | Cacai Velasquez (photo: GMA-7)
1998 | Regine Velasquez and Vina Morales (photo: GMA-7)
2002 | Back-to-Back-to-Back portion (photo: GMA-7)
SOP at GMA Broadway Studio 1997 to 2000 (photo: GMA-7)
SOP at GMA Network Center 2000 to 2008 (photo: GMA-7)
it was late 2009 when sop ratings declined after many years of lording the ratings game against asap

(barring all boxing events of manny pacquiao which pre-empted that timeslot occasionally)

the result of this decline gave rise to sop fully charged, which launched new set, new studio, not quite new performers,

but the decline was rapid and that made sop to close its curtain after 13 years

december 2009 tv ratings - AGB:

ASAP 09' (ABS-CBN) -19.9%
SOP Fully Charged (GMA-7) 9.1%

sop fails to deliver both in star power and performance

party pilipinas has recently replaced sop and its initial telecast was quite impressive

with the appearance of former asap mainstays like claudine barretto, mark bautista, rachelle ann go and other upcoming wannabe stars

the show touring all over the philippines but these (out-of-town) moves seemed to have failed in boosting its ratings as it sadly lagged behind asap xv
