there's metropop song festival way back late 90's
one of the popular songs that i can recall "mabuti pa sila" of gary granda
and then the revived himig handog that originated early 2000 until 2003
with hit songs "kung ako na lang sana" and "this guy's in love with you pare"
and with the invasion of mtv, channel v, myx and asianovela to the local music, all of these opm songwriting competitions were diminished

and then recently, through the initiative of businessman manny v. pangilinan
and backed by his companies pldt, smart, meralco, maynnilad and tv5, the opm song competition breathe new life
the philpop! or the philippine popular music festival that's spearheaded by no less maestro ryan cayabyab
it's an annual songwriting competition to amateur and professional songwriters since 2012,
that offers cash, trophies as prizes and more importantly a recording for the compilation of the song entries
philpop 2013, i think was the most successful to date
it's remarkable that had most of the song entries in the radio and myx chart last year!
and it's also interpreted by the most sought-after singers of this generation!
songs that we are all familiar that came from last year's competition are dati, kung ako na lang sana and araw, ulap, langit! that i often hear on radio!

i was there to feel philpop! held at the meralco theatre in pasig city, exactly a year ago!
and i was there for one primary reason, for gary v.! hehehe
apart from the backstage pass, i seated and enjoyed watching the performances of gary v! and some of the incredible talented singers on-stage!
there's also a special performance from the cast of the highly-successful musical play rak of aegis!
jungee marcelo and kyla took home the grand prize of philpop 2014!
