gma-7's news programs have gone through many experiment-of-sorts in the 90's
on 1995, saksi was the primetime newscast of gma-7,
led by mike enriquez, karen davila and later on mel tiangco
on 1995, saksi was the primetime newscast of gma-7,
led by mike enriquez, karen davila and later on mel tiangco
on 1998, mike enriquez joined the latenight newscast gma network news and its longtime news anchor vicky morales
latenight newscasts on tv are traditionally in english
but the mike-vicky tandem tried the use of taglish and later on becomes straight tagalog that also pioneered stand-up news delivery
this paved way for many innovations then,
the mike-vicky tandem in a way succeeded on the following year
the original anchor of saksi, mike enriquez returned to primetime newscast saksi, with vicky morales
and mel tiangco had her own solo newscast titled frontpage: ulat ni mel tiangco on latenight timeslot
this brought a significance change in tv news programs and the battle of latenight newscasts has never been the same since then
abs-cbn's longtime latenight newscast, the world tonight was replaced by
pulso, aksyon, balita and later came many latenight tagalog newscasts that competed with frontpage: ulat ni mel tiangco
and the ratings has improved and favored the latenight timeslot of gma-7
and i think that prompted frontpage: ulat ni mel tiangco to move to primetime and exchanged timeslot with saksi on july 2002
the tried and tested mike-vicky tandem returns to the latenight newscast fore with saksi
and at that time, saksi won a gold medal at the new york festival
on 2003, i noticed of some experiment, mike enriquez and jessico soho would normally subbed for mel tiangco
and then it wasn't too long when gma-7 put together their veteran news anchors as front line for a new primetime news program,
on 15th march 2004, exactly 10 years ago, gma-7 launched 24 oras with mel tiangco and mike enriquez as the tandem to beat
with its slogan pinakamalaking balitaan sa telebisyon
but we all knew that tv patrol was the viewers choice in the last decades!
and it's amazing how 24 oras scored and broke that stranglehold months later after its launch
this exactly was the subject matter of my college thesis,
that, well, earned a good grade and reputation
some the factor that attributed and pulled-up the ratings of 24 oras could be the inclusion of extra challenge to primetime
and that the reality-based format programs were popular then and the emerging success of fantaserye genre mulawin and encantadia
in the nielsen survey on 2004,
24 oras scored a 25.65 percent household ratings while
tv patrol's ratings is at below average of 19.8 percent
on the other hand on november 2004 tv patrol was relaunched as tv patrol world with its new anchors, karen davila and ted failon
it scored a initial ratings of 22 percent while
24 oras had 33 percent
the tandem of mike enriquez and mel tiangco is huge!
they're the veteran news presenters and known to be as the most credible broadcast journalist of gma-7
its one of the greatest advantage for the newscast
that eventually led a wide margin against tv patrol or tv patrol world
in the course of 10 years i've had an opportunity to work with pia guanio for the noontime show eat... bulaga!
and a very short stint at gma public affairs and now i am a news field producer for tv5
congratulations 24 oras! and 10 years later it feels that my study is still relevant to this day!
