Production Notes from August 26 Protest at Luneta and October 4 Protest at Ayala

more than ten years ago, we ousted a corrupt government official through edsa dos!

and what prompted the second edsa was the text revolution!

i remember so well because we're there (i was in 4th year high school then) on thursday (18th and 19th January 2001) and friday

it was when nora aunor speaks in front of thousand of protesters and students at edsa shrine

and the following day when the military and police withdrew their support to erap!

fast forward today, the events and the protests and the social media revolution!

the use of hashtags #scrappork by netizens was a big help to disseminate information and outrage on-line! via twitter and facebook

this prompted massive street protests titled million people march

that consist of college students, the civil society, different religious sectors and some celebrities!

and the culmination event on 26th august where thousands gathered at rizal park to protest against pork barrel!

they call to abolish the pork barrel system that has resulted to a widespread corruption of government officials in the past years

you know that this is a national concern when participation and appearance of past government officials, media and students civil society

all are calling for a change in the system!

tv5 aired a special coverage and a marathon live broadcast that started early morning until the primetime newscast

live updates from luneta with mon gualvez and jove francisco

early this year, tv5 and aksyontv devoted an airtime for a marathon coverage of the entire pdaf timeline

since the senate investigation and all the protests thereon

and it seems that the protest in luneta wasn't hardly enough

and the concern citizens of the philippines now seeking for a more substantial result

the same group and other sectors that led the million people march in luneta

has brought the protest to the shala streets of ayala avenue and paseo de roxas, the main business district of manila!

on 4th october, portions of ayala avenue corner paseo de roxas were closed to motorists for the rally

ina zara reported on the traffic situation along paseo de roxas and the on-going preparations for the programs on-site

the program on-stage started at 6pm

but before that, there were speeches from various militant leaders and some members of the civil society

followed by anti-pork groups that marched from various streets to ayala avenue with banners and streamers of prostest!

jun loyola gave an update at the on-going march at ayala avenue

during the first million people march we've seen students from different universities

but this time, sectors from the labor force of makati joined in the protest

at around night time, the protesters held a cande-lighting and noise barrage while there's an on-going program

meanwhile, patricia mangune gave updates on the on-going protests live for aksyon primetime

there were also performances, song and dance numbers from different artists

estimated participants gathered for the program would sum to 10,000 according to makati traffic

we've seen the emerging trend of social media that now becomes highly relevant in shaping our society

relative to this new media effect that more than 10 years ago in edsa dos, the power of text message has influenced the call against corruption!

i hope that these tools of social media will be used for change and only for the common good in building a corrupt-free and strong nation
