From Small Voice To World Stage

FROM SMALL VOICE TO WORLD STAGE
-ryandgreat,

the world is her stage!

it's been the life and the journey of lea salonga in the last 35 years of her career

from small voice to the world stage and now she's the voice of the philippines!

we're all familiar to her success story! she first appeared in a musical play at the age of 7

and a recording artist at the age of 9,

and one of the teen idols of that's entertainment!

and later on she has represented our country so well in her appearances

on the west end and broadway stage and to walt disney and more

and it's indeed a great accomplishment all these years!

and last night we're there to celebrate her 35th year! and to be seated five rows away from the stage was such a delight!

we've seen some good prens and many familiar faces in the crowd,

i saw my boss, sir dj sta.ana and his wife and lawyn cruz, a good pren of mine from eat... bulaga!

@ryandgreat
December 7 | we're present at Playlist concert
@ryandgreat
December 7 | with Ellawyn Cruz!
@ryandgreat
December 7 | with sir Gerard Salonga
the first part of the show consists of songs of familiar songs girl on fire, do you know where you're going to, the climb, beautiful and blurred line

and then a performance with mitoy yonting of some opm love classics, coming from their recent victory at the voice of the philippines

where they emerge as the grand champ!

and a performance with rachelle ann go, she's the recent west end recruit

she will play a supporting role for miss saigon and they sang some miss saigon as gigi and kim respectively

other notable song numbers that followed were chasing pavements, evergreen the morning after, love will keep us alive

and some throwback of the 70's and 80's, whitney houston and donna summer medley

and then ogie alcasid appeared as surprise guest!

and we're all laughing, they reprise bonggahan, a song number that they did 10 years ago during songs from home concert

there were more encore numbers that night, we first dance along with lea while singing abba medley

@ryandgreat
December 7 | on-stage! Lea Salonga and Aga Muhlach

and the best part of the night was the kilig moments when aga muhlach came up on stage while lea is singing sana maulit muli

the theme song and the title of their 1995 hit movie!

and the finale number is very appropriate, the mash-up of i'll be home for christmas and jingle bells!

as always, we truly enjoyed the show!

congratulations to playlist, to miss lea salonga and mr. gerard salonga and the entire production staff we hope to see this on tv or a dvd release soon!

Hashtag Revolution

HASHTAG REVOLUTION
-ryandgreat, san fernando, pampanga

Production Notes from August 26 Protest at Luneta and October 4 Protest at Ayala

more than ten years ago, we ousted a corrupt government official through edsa dos!

and what prompted the second edsa was the text revolution!

i remember so well because we're there (i was in 4th year high school then) on thursday (18th and 19th January 2001) and friday

it was when nora aunor speaks in front of thousand of protesters and students at edsa shrine

and the following day when the military and police withdrew their support to erap!

fast forward today, the events and the protests and the social media revolution!

the use of hashtags #scrappork by netizens was a big help to disseminate information and outrage on-line! via twitter and facebook

this prompted massive street protests titled million people march

that consist of college students, the civil society, different religious sectors and some celebrities!

and the culmination event on 26th august where thousands gathered at rizal park to protest against pork barrel!

they call to abolish the pork barrel system that has resulted to a widespread corruption of government officials in the past years

you know that this is a national concern when participation and appearance of past government officials, media and students civil society

all are calling for a change in the system!

tv5 aired a special coverage and a marathon live broadcast that started early morning until the primetime newscast

live updates from luneta with mon gualvez and jove francisco

early this year, tv5 and aksyontv devoted an airtime for a marathon coverage of the entire pdaf timeline

since the senate investigation and all the protests thereon

and it seems that the protest in luneta wasn't hardly enough

and the concern citizens of the philippines now seeking for a more substantial result

the same group and other sectors that led the million people march in luneta

has brought the protest to the shala streets of ayala avenue and paseo de roxas, the main business district of manila!

on 4th october, portions of ayala avenue corner paseo de roxas were closed to motorists for the rally

ina zara reported on the traffic situation along paseo de roxas and the on-going preparations for the programs on-site

the program on-stage started at 6pm

but before that, there were speeches from various militant leaders and some members of the civil society

followed by anti-pork groups that marched from various streets to ayala avenue with banners and streamers of prostest!

jun loyola gave an update at the on-going march at ayala avenue

during the first million people march we've seen students from different universities

but this time, sectors from the labor force of makati joined in the protest

at around night time, the protesters held a cande-lighting and noise barrage while there's an on-going program

meanwhile, patricia mangune gave updates on the on-going protests live for aksyon primetime

there were also performances, song and dance numbers from different artists

estimated participants gathered for the program would sum to 10,000 according to makati traffic

we've seen the emerging trend of social media that now becomes highly relevant in shaping our society

relative to this new media effect that more than 10 years ago in edsa dos, the power of text message has influenced the call against corruption!

i hope that these tools of social media will be used for change and only for the common good in building a corrupt-free and strong nation

I Heart Cebu

I HEART CEBU
-ryandgreat, tagbilaran, bohol

there's no place in the philippines that i'd love visit than cebu city!

yes i badly want to visit cebu ever since and its a dream destination for me

and that opportunity happened not just once because i have visited cebu city four times in just a year!

August 2013 | Ryan Heart Cebu and Cebu Heart Ryan
December 2012 | the view from our hotel room in Cebu City
August 2013 | in front of  Magellan's cross
August 2013 | the Magellan's cross
August 2013 | at the Fort San Pedro
August 2013 | the Cebu Province Capitol
the first visit was a work related! that's for the launch of radyo5 cebu on 2012 of november

since it's a business trip, i only had a brief tour around the city,

mostly during lunch and on our way to tv5 cebu station and back to our hotel

we stayed at the regency hotel cebu, quite near the city capitol and some establishments that are walking distance to fuente osmena

on 12th november was the launching of local version of radyo5 newsfm in cebu,

local radio arm of tv5 manila

with a live broadcast of some tv5 news programs, punto asintado, t3 and aksyon primetime from cebu

immediately following my last leg of work,

we headed again to cebu for another round of work, this time with maricel halili and my team (my first time to work with maricel halili outside manila)

there was a political crisis in cebu, few days before christmas

cebu governor gwen garcia was suspended by malacanan and vice governor agnes magpale sworn in as acting governor

this caused a lot of tension in the capitol of cebu!

as supporters of both party stayed outside while the suspended governor also stayed in her office to express her resistance in the order of suspension

on the first week of january we went back to cebu, once again for the exact same story

so all in, i've been in and out of cebu 3 times and 2 weeks apart

November 2012 | Punto Asintado in Cebu - November 2012
November 12, 2012 | Erwin Tulfo live anchoring from Cebu, for Aksyon Primetime
January 11, 2013 | Cebu politcal crisis
November 2012 | my first visit to Cebu
August 2013 | my fourth visit to Cebu
and it was all amazing!, but that was all for work

and i haven't explored the city that much

and so, last week was a time for purely vacation in cebu! with my family

our first stop, the mactan shrine, only few meters away from mactan international airport of cebu,

and then we headed downtown, at the magallanes street, cebu city,

our first stop, the famous and the historical magellan's cross named after ferdinand  magellan during spanish time

also on the same street is the basilica of Santo Nino, one of the oldest catholic church

cebu city has it's own fort santiago, the fort san pedro located at the plaza independencia,

just like fort santiago in manila that's surrounded by walls but here is too small, with a garden and museum inside

the transportation around cebu city is accesible mostly to jeepneys and taxi

it's highly urbanized district, with big shopping malls and business centeres around the city,

but unlike in manila, the traffic situation in cebu is somewhat manageable

it's urban but in a probinsiya feels with its historical and heritage sites around the city

those are my reasons why i most definitely love cebu city!

it's always my dream local destination and time and again, i look forward to visit either for work or for pleasure!

til' next time! daghang salamat cebu city!
