Year End-Gagements

YEAR END-GAGEMENTS
-ryandgreat

we're fast approaching 2007! and for all you know, half of 2006 was a hard time to deal, it wasn't the worst and wasn't best either

but i had so much this year

i said a lot of THANK YOUs and by looking around there were many things to be grateful for, i know i did, a healthy life for myself and my family

and op cors! it was a productive year after all!

there's the rewarding downtime where i've had the chance to learn cooking, the cleaning, the stuffing, the workshop, the movies, the coffee,

the job hunting, job interviews and the frustrations that came after was truly an extra-ordinary experience

it all seemed like a perfect experiment and it was the right ingredients for a results that are hopefully on its way

looking back at 2006, i can’t help but be amazed at the tremendous support that i received from people around me

and God almighty for the splendid showers of blessings that came my way

so eto na! let's review the best of 2006!

most of the days in the first quarter of the year were devoted for school activities,

yes it was the life of a graduating student that i've to fulfill many academic and non-academic responsibilities!

the culmination of our theology class where we held a retreat last January and the many requirements from

our Video Film Making class that required pre-production, shooting and post-production

down to promotions, the posters, the stickers, dealing with sponsors, the design of the tarp, the marketing and all

and to its premiere night and screening of our short film kubli!

and then our Development Communication Plan's blueprint itself down to its smallest details of producing the iec materials

leading to the development communication week and exhibit that i was part of

a non-academic projects for my various assignments as student leader where i spearheaded adspeak competition

and an advocacy project of letran integrated media organization for the manila science high school students

through tv advertising public service announcement and  – the aribariya project

i was also tasked to lead the annual printados: exhibit of print ads and works of some sophomore students

and  then our day-in, day-out meetings at the chair’s office, raffy would always call us for an emergency meeting trying to meet all the deadlines

and the left and right seminars, exhibits, docufest and pelikuLetran

that even on valentines day became an ordinary, school day

ended the day loudly at starbuxx intramuros with some prens that doesn't have love life but has a very active sex life! hahaha

i've had most of the graduation requirements to include graduation pictorial, baccalaureate mass and recognition day

the second quarter of the year was pretty much laid back

accompanied my mom in all her hospital and medical check ups and lab tests

i was supposed to go in another country during that period but i my visa was denied

i hold back my plans to apply for a job until suddenly there's an opportunity to enroll for a film and tv workshop

i've attended  job interviews and turned down job offers those of which were horrible!

and then work suddenly came in unexpectedly

on the third quarter of the year was relatively quiet but i've busied myself with other stuff

i spent some time at home cleaning and painting and watched movies that i've never seen before

from those award-winning films like beautiful mind and mostly tom hanks movies

and some tagalog classics and naughty like mahawi man ang ulap and patikim ng pinya

and was pre-occupied at this last quarter of the month

i've attended the 2006 catholic mass media awards, even i'm not a finalist

and the most important part was the reunion of sorts with prens that i've never seen since september

@ryandgreat
November 27, 2006 | at the Catholic Mass Media Awards!
the last 3 weeks of november were spent with my peyborit prens julius, madz, jay-r from loitering around manila to exploring mall of asia!

we watched movies to starbuxx sessions where we reminisced the not too old days

plus the ironies of life and the important decisions we'll make in the future

from job hunt to watching to eat..bulaga!, it was one of the most important bonding we've shared! haha

and i've also went back serving as lector at the church and it felt so good to serve the Lord and was able to write something for this blog!

perhaps reminiscing the last 11 months, the experiences the good and the bad,

tells an important lesson that i've to bring next year

it's the learning that counts! and looking forward to a bright days ahead! and the Christmas season!

goodbye 2006! and welcome 2007!

SM Mall Of Asia's History

SM MALL OF ASIA'S HISTORY
-ryandgreat, mall of asia pasay city
i first heard of a huge mall construction at the reclaimed area in pasay city on 1999

at that time archdiocesan shrine of Jesus: the way, the truth and the life was also inaugurated,

it was the very first establishment and only structure in that reclaimed area and later on it was developed for a commercial and business center

henry sy of sm helped the development of the church that includes Pope John Paul II youth center and adoration chapel

we've been attending holy mass, simbang gabi at the shrine since then

and we're an active participant of the traditional annual gift giving after Christmas eve mass and also fireworks display during new year's eve mass

i remember so well, on one particular Sunday of decemmber 2000, we saw lea salonga seated behind us,

we're such a huge fan! can’t help but look at her and then after the mass she granted us an autograph, too bad we didn't have a camera!

before it became SM Mall of Asia as we knew it today,

it was once an empty space, where you can plant a tree or practice driving, the place was ghost town! and no public transport in sight
and last may it was formally inaugurated to public, been there several times already but its only today that i get to see it closely and i am impressed

i think sm mega mall is now far, far behind sm mall of asia, literally and figuratively

Pinoy Pop Santos

PINOY POP SANTOS
-ryandgreat

santos emerged as the grand winner of pinoy pop superstar year 2 held at the araneta coliseum last night

i do not want to preempt anyone hence the primetime telecast will be aired tonight, so i'll just share some highlights of the event

my long-lost pren who happened to be a weekly contestant of that show for that season invited me to watch it,

apparently he didn’t make it to the finals and were both seated at the audience side

it's like watching a concert,

the grand opening number was led by no less than regine velasquez where she's suspended in the air while singing i believe i can fly

the rules of the competition during the finals night were the same rules that they have on regular elimination night

7 contenders competed during round 1 then only 4 contenders advanced for the next round

and from there on, 2 contenders emerged and competed for the title with same song with the same criteria

i'm expecting for aicelle and gerarld to win but more on aicelle since she can pull it off and and could follow the footsteps of rachelle ann go,

who's also a product of a talent search following the success of sarah geronimo

i'm also rooting for rosemarie, a contender from usa, but too bad she was eliminated during round 1

the first winner jonalyn viray haven't done so much after a year from her momentous victory as grand champion. we've never felt her presence at all

i think this isn't her time and unfortunately succeeding winners from different singing contests on tv, after rachelle ann go, did not become superstars

CREATIVE WORK PLAN
Dominican Province of the Philippines

1. Essence of Dominican Province of the Philippines

A deeply spiritual, religious and doctrinal life; a fraternal life in
the community; liturgical life in choir and sanctuary; a living faith and ardent love of God and neighbor.

2. Who should the advertising talk to?

Male/female, 15-30 years old, devoted Catholic. Reformer mindset; desies social betterment. Feels he/she has a vocation, is considering becoming a priest or nun.

3. Why are we advertising?

To create awareness on the Dominican Way of Life and the Dominican Province of the Philippines.

To attract men/women to join the religious vowed life as a Dominican Priest/Nun.

4. What does the target audience now think/feel about the Dominican?

I think that the Dominican are a religious order of priests and nuns who are running prominent Catholic schools like the University of Sto. Tomas, Colegio de San Juan de Letran and Angelicum College.

5. What message should the advertising communicate?

The DOMINICAN PROVINCE OF THE PHILIPPINES, manifesting special commitment to Christ and the church, strive to incarnate in themselves and in their communities Christ the Preacher whom they announce to the world, especially the poor. If you feel you have a vocation, you can proclaim and witness Good News in an authentically Dominican and Filipino way by joining the Order of Preachers.

6. Mandatories

few months before graduation,  we've fulfilled a non-academic requirement to complete theology 8, a must! retreat in caleruega, batangas

we spent days without cellular phones but we have cameras!

and everything was captured! hahaha (no! not everything) in this memorable occasion of our lives

on our first day it was more of an orientation with father joemar sibug o.p who facilitates a quick tour and he's our retreat master

the atmosphere becomes somber and quiet all through the night and then we gathered for an activity where we shared our future plans in life

right after that, we proceeded to our dorm and move our beds side by side

the quiet atmosphere was scary so we just spent talking and laughing til' dawn

we woke-up early and had breakfast together then warmed up for activities like group discussions and one-on-one sessions

we discussed more on family matters, i shared how i love and respect my parents and for their sacrifices and being grateful to them

the most memorable part of this retreat is the affirmation!

we gathered around while one seated at the middle

and one by one, to give out testimony to that person

when it was my turn, i was still trying to keep my composure but i can't help but cry,

i'm the most sentimental, i feel so much love while hearing those words from my prens and they're all crying as if i passed away

once i got back in my chair, thank goodness that relief swept over me

i thanked everyone for their, nothing but kind words to me and all the divine inspiration from above

January 19 | i'm scared! (photo: Rocky Ko)
there were moments that moved us and tears overflowed with spirit of oneness and camaraderie, expressing our love for one another

and our hope for our future

the entire evening was a deeply emotional experience, i won't soon forget!

on our last day, we attended a holy mass where we had our chance to express our sincerest apology and gratitude to one another

somehow, i find a personal peace of mind where i put away all my excess baggage,

and all the unforgettable times we spent together where we touched each others hearts

knowing full well that few months from now we'll part ways

so it was a great end and beginning

and our relationship now becomes so strong and meaningful with mutual respect and understanding

again, prens! thank you for the kind words that i'll treasure as we go on our next journey!

In Or Out

IN OR OUT!
-ryandgreat

a radio commercial that featured colegio de san juan de letran CLASEd’s “Adopt-a-School” community involvement

was our group's final output for our advertising class

the objective of the project is to impart a more active community involvement

and also to mobilize the letran community (students, faculty, non-academic personnel, parents and alumni)

to lend our support to manila high school that needs assistance

letran considered manila science high school a “neighbor” since it is just a stone’s throw away from letran

and we've also been active in providing a practical training to our adopted brothers and sisters in manila high school

we visited the school last week and found out that the main building needs to be repaired or renovated

it has 51 classrooms but 5 are non-serviceable.  most of the rooms are not well-ventilated, including the automotive/practical arts room.

the school has a population of 3,524 students, it has only 1,900 existing armchairs

there is a small library but the books in circulation are inadequate. it also has a computer room but there are only a few functioning computers

we ought to give assistance that includes book donations and computer laboratory enhancement

Jayr Cator
January 17 | the producer and the talent at the radio booth (photo: Jayr Cator)
Jayr Cator
January 17 | recording and mixing (photo: Jayr Cator)
meanwhile, our group did try our very best to produce a radio plug that has relevant information

to drive a tangible results among students of letran
and our objective to help raise books for our adopted school, manila high school

through this ad, we'd like to encourage the letran community to lend their support and help raise books and aside from this is also a part of the midterm examination for the subject radio and tv advertising

the big selling idea here is the library, an act from a scene in the library,

there are no books available for a student who is harping into getting the books that he wants to borrow for his exams.

we presented a slice-of-life format, a usual scene inside the school library, an interaction between the student and the librarian..
