High 5! 2005

HIGH 5! 2005:
-ryandgreat

the world pyrolympics display at the mall of asia complex and my family, made my pre-new year celebration!

save for that last days of the year, the only time this year that we're able to spend time together

wealth, love, failure, friends, lessons learned, reality check, extra challenge, tantrum, afflictions, triumph, success story, laughter and many accomplishments,
that best describe the year the high and low of 2005 in my life

March 2005 - ExelLance Awards Night at Manila Intercontinental Hotel
i got 3 cellular phones with 3 different networks (Smart, Globe and Sun)

i stay connected with all my prens, old and new and i abused the use of text messaging, walang humpay ang pag-tetext!

i also had my very first Apple gadget that's my favorite i-pod nano!

see some WEALTH on that hehehe, i was also able to save money and saved another bank account this year

LAUGHTER becomes the best medicine and anti-stress there is! sharing wonderful stories that are funny and obscene! hahahaha

a lot of EXTRA and ORDINARY CHALLENGES

mama got sick and was confined five times this year and i am worried

the financial burden and the AFFLICTION that she has to go through this year but we trust Lord for the gift of healing through prayers and faith

the BEST in me came out, people trust in me, i became a leader, i got good grades and i did well in class, i know there's always room for improvement

and the best reward that i got is the recognition!

and there were several nominations in different category for the 3rd exelLance: communication arts award for excellence

and has won the most coveted award for the best student tv production category in the recently concluded catholic mass media awards,

bested 7 others in that category, our documentary about real, quezon

REALITY CHECK taught me on how to stand and never loose hope, to look back and move forward, to think far and go far, not to lean on my own understanding

and to realize that God designed that for a reason and was his purpose and i am very grateful

the end of this great year is the beginning of a new one!

welcome 2006! and i wish more peace, prosperity, love, good health and money!

9 Mornings

9 MORNINGS
-ryandgreat, greenbelt 1

for the first time! i've completed the 9 traditional novena mass of simbang gabi!
like i'm on a gung-ho mission!

i haven't done that before and i usually have attended 4 or 8 simbang gabi in the past

and that the normal excuse i'm having a hard time waking up too early

there were also times that i skip morning mass for anticipated mass just to complement what i missed

but this year is an exception, i served as a commentator in our parish on the first morning and goes on

one particular morning that was so special to me was while we're having a christmas party at laguna

and what seems impossible for me to go on because i'm not familiar with the place

becomes possible when Lord has sent me bazillion of guardian angels that lead me to Immaculate Concepcion parish church in laguna safely

and yesterday, i was with the whole gang! ashti, julius, ping, rebex and arni! for the 8th morning that's after a gimmick from libis

and as of this writing, i just came home from the 9th morning and have completed the mission!

those sleepless nights has paid off

it's my way of thanking Lord Jesus for all his infinite graces and blessings throughout 2005 and for the year to come

thank you Lord! Merry Christmas everyone!

Partey Tayo!

PARTEY TAYO!
-ryandgreat

at one of our movie dates last december when the idea to have a christmas partey was planned

never mind that this happened in the middle of our thesis writing and other production classes in the life of graduating students!

so on that day! we went to school first for our last film production meeting and then headed to laguna for this much awaited partey!

we went there by group! and my group op cors consisted of my peyborit prens of all time! madz, julus, ashti with mariz!

on our way there we've decided a starbuxx break to collect stickers for the planner ;p

and while at the toll gate of slex we saw jayson gainza of the recently concluded pinoy big brother!

and we all went crazy because julius, madz and mariz were yelling inside the car!

milhsen's group were already there and have prepared some drinks and food and then swim-swim na sila

while we're waiting for the others to arrive,

we've decided to have dinner plus drinks at around 11PM while laarni is having her own moment! ;)

and the late comers arrived at 4AM and were almost complete!

and the "partey tayoooo!" line from mariz! became the official title of this partey

while most them were having fun and harutan,

i slipped to attend simbang gabi, gusto din nila ako ihatid sa simbahan eh mga lasing na sila! hahaha

we stayed there until noontime,

oh we'd the greatest time! that each of us will not soon forget and some stories that cannot be told and some pictures that cannot be posted

because whatever happened in laguna, stays in laguna! hahaha anyway special thanks to ace york for the partey place ;)

last night we've attended the 27th catholic mass media awards (cmma) held at the carlos p. romulo auditorium rcbc plaza in makati

that recognized some of the best works from print to broadcast to advertising and on its 5th year for the outstanding works of students from various schools

has made it to cmma as finalist for best student tv production

we're expecting to win during our annual school awards night held at manila peninsula last march

as some would say that it's timely and it has great production value but unfortunately we didn’t win

being a cmma nominee feels more than enough already and that all our hard works (and gastos) for the documentary has paid off
we're not even sure if we're invited to the awards night and later that day we're only given 2 passes but we're four plus our supporters waw!

we came just in time for our category, but prior that, letran was sweeping all the awards and the pressure is on us and the anticipation
i'm holding my breathe but i'm also prepared to whatever the result might be and while looking closely to the emcees to utter the name of the winner

in my mind i'm already composing a short acceptance speech hahaha

i recall that i wasn’t shaking and then lo and behold! i was the first one to give an acceptance speech, ayoko naman mag turuan kami on who should go first

i still remember my exact acceptance speech:

“we’d like to share this award to our brothers and sisters in letran, to our CA4C family, family and thank you to all c.a faculty”
then followed by rico, then rocky and ace

and then sabi ni roxanne barcelo “o baba na kayo boys” pinapalayas na niya kami sa stage!

mike enriquez and some media personalities walked up that very same stage! kinikilig ako when i was on that stage and accepted an award!

it's a night of a dream coming true.

and now it can be told that i yearn for this since day one of college

thank you Lord for making it possible! it's truly awesome!

Stars Rack

STARS RACK
-ryandgreat

the reality-based tv shows are very popular nowadays, here and abroad,

there's american idol that's the inspiration that of the first reality-based artista search on the local tube, aptly titled starstruck!

that launched the careers of jennylyn mercado, katrina halili, cristine reyes and more

it's also our modern day that's entertainment but in a reality-based form where aspirants,  for them to become an instant artista

will have to go through different challenges or artista tests of singing, dancing, hosting and acting

the initial telecast began in 2003.

the muscial variery show sop made the announcement for an open-audition to teens aged 15 to 18 years old at the gma studios, malls and schools

i've followed the first few episodes of the show

after the extensive screening, only 100 were chosen from among thousands who auditioned and eventually became 60, 30

and then the final 14 consisted of seven of boys and girls who shone the brightest during the tough elimination rounds

the 14 finalists were:

anton dela paz
ara cristine reyes
sheena halili
katrina halili
jennylyn mercado
mark herras
rainier castillo
tyrone perez
dion ignacio
nadine samonte
yasmien kurdi
jade lopez
christian esteban
alvin aragon

they were virtual unknowns and were an ordinary looking individuals that went through several tests that a real star has to undergo

they were given challenges and workshops to tests and hone their singing, dancing, acting and hosting capacities,

guided by the industry's best coaches and mentors

dance choreographer douglas nierras mentored the finalists during the dance week!

while singers regine velasquez and ogie alcasid did share their expertise in singing

they also had acting week with mentors gina alajar who facilitated an acting workshop

and then the survivors re-enacted some of the local film's most memorable scenes

and then they got the chance to act on the set of a GMA teledrama together with its actors

each week of tests consisted of an elimination round during fridays' live telecast from the gma broadway studios

film director joyce bernal, tv host joey de leon and gma artist center manager ida henares seated as the starstruck council

that gave half of the scores and the half that came from tv audience who voted through text or pldt landline and internet

the unknown mark herras and jennelyn mercado became a household name
and became really popular!

that prompted the show to have its spin-off that's starstruck kids!

hosted by jolina magdangal, who herself, started her career at a very young age through ang tv

the show has similar concept but was tailored-fit for the kids

sam bumatay emerged as the grand winner

having seen the competition all throughout, she reminds me of a young aiza seguerra during her little miss philippines days

that now appears as one of the starstruck judge

on the other station, abs-cbn had star circle quest with almost the same feature and format

and then the not so equally successful season 2 of starstruck that has enjoyed all the hypes from season 1

the popularity of talent shows like starstruck was such a phenomenal hit

and this was attributed to the reality concept of the show that has a tremendous audience response to this day

-ryandgreat, ateneo de manila universtiy

i spent my summer on an actual on-the-job training!

i've gone through an actual process of job hunting by trying to at least twenty companies

not limited to broadcasting but also to print, advertising, recording and film

only few have shown their interest,

one of them is the
XAX Music Entertainment in Makati

where we got accepted and started right away

the song "ang pag-ibig ko ay dapat pansinin" from the hit koreanovela stairway to heaven and is currently a big hit on the airwaves!

the office conference room serves our work place

the first 3 days were actually spent on familiarizing on how they work and the facilities, recording studios

after that, we begun writing our proposals that includes company profile

and marketing plan for their products that's currently in the market that's not making money

on the fourth day, it was the submission and presentation of our marketing plan and proposals with the company profile

the following days were spent on field works!

we went to sm bacoor for faith cuneta's mall show

we first checked on record bars for faith cuneta's album sales

and then went on to the actual mall show where we actually did not anticipate to have a major role! we went on-stage and hosted the entire program!
